President Trump drew international headlines last week for a botched handshake attempt with the Polish first lady after misreading that her extended hand was for him, when in fact it was for his wife Melania.

And now less than a week after that awkward moment, Trump has suffered yet another bizarre handshake with another first lady -- this time with the wife of French President Emmanuel Macron, Brigitte Marie-Claude Macron.




Trump and first lady Melania Trump were welcomed by their French counterparts on Thursday morning to kick off his second European trip in two weeks. The visit was set in motion by a call Macron made to discuss international relations, during which, he invited the U.S. leader to Bastille Day celebrations on July 14.

But when the time came for a photo opportunity between the two couples the Trumps, who have had previous physical interactions abroad dominate headlines, things appeared to start off a little shaky.

President Trump and President Macron shook hands, reinforcing U.S.-France relations on a world stage, following the pair's disagreement over Trump's decision to pull the U.S. out of the Paris climate accord, but when Trump reached to shake hands with the French first lady he gave the internet another unusual sight.

Two men have been sentenced to six months in prison in the first case of wildlife trafficking brought in Ivory Coast.

Ivorian government lawyer said the judgement "sends a signal" that animal trafficking is being taken seriously.
The men were arrested while trying to sell an infant chimp to a BBC reporter posing as the representative of a wealthy Asian buyer.
Chimpanzees are in such sharp decline they are listed as endangered.
Those in West Africa are judged to be critically endangered.
Since Ibrahima and Mohamed Traore have remained in prison since their detention last December, they are deemed to have already served their sentences and are therefore free.

Infant chimpanzees are in huge demand as pets in homes and commercial zoos in the Gulf states and China.The dealers were arrested in a dramatic raid staged by Ivorian detectives working with international police organisation Interpol, acting on information shared by BBC News.
During the operation, a baby chimpanzee later named Nemley junior was freed and taken into the care of wildlife officials.

After becoming used to the keepers at the zoo in Abidjan the baby chimpanzee showed signs of recovery.However he has since become unwell with wildlife experts raising concerns for his future.
According to a local charity, although Nemley junior is feeding, he remains thin.
One major concern is that he is too small to join older chimps at the zoo but becomes stressed if kept on his own.
In the wild, baby chimpanzees usually stick close to their mothers for four to five years.



The secret trade in baby chimps


A secret network of wildlife traffickers selling baby chimpanzees was exposed by a year-long BBC News investigation. Nemley junior was seized by poachers who would have killed his parents and other members of his family.
During our investigation, Ibrahima Traore sent us videos of baby chimpanzees for sale, some were only a few months old.He boasted of his ability to evade international export controls.

One technique, which he demonstrated in a video, was to hide a chimp in a secret compartment in a shipping case with other less rare animals, which can be legally exported, placed above it.
Another smuggling method that he outlined to us was to obtain forged or fake copies of international export permits.

These are issued under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (Cites) and are only supposed to be used for legitimate transfers between registered institutions.
During our investigation, Ibrahima sold us one of these permits, apparently issued by the National Parks department of Liberia.

"We are delighted that the first ever wildlife crime prosecution in Ivory Coast has resulted in a conviction, a custodial sentence and a fine," Cites secretary-general John Scanlon told the BBC.

He also commended the authorities in the Ivory Coast for pursuing the prosecution of the criminals, thereby sending an important message to the community that wildlife trafficking was a criminal offence.

Saudi football chiefs have apologized after their national team elected not to take part in a minute's silence for victims of the London Bridge attack.

Australian players linked arms as a sign of respect before Thursday's World Cup qualifying match at Adelaide Oval.

Saudi players took up field positions and some continued to stretch.

Football officials said they had been told in advance that the "tradition was not in keeping with Saudi culture". An Australian MP called it "disgraceful".

Football's world body Fifa says the Saudi team will not face sanctions. It said it had reviewed what had happened and judged that there were "no grounds to take disciplinary action".

Eight people were killed and 48 injured on Saturday when three men drove into pedestrians on London Bridge, before abandoning the vehicle and stabbing people in the surrounding area.

Two Australians, Kirsty Boden and Sara Zelenak, were among the eight victims of the terror attack.
'No disrespect intended'

Australian football officials said the Saudi team had agreed a minute's silence could be held.

But officials were "further advised by Saudi team officials that this tradition was not in keeping with Saudi culture and they would move to their side of the field and respect our custom whilst taking their own positions on the field", a statement from Football Federation Australia said.

During the silence, as the Australian team lined up, most Saudi players dispersed to take up their positions on the pitch. Number 7 Salman Al Faraj, appeared to stand still. Two other players are also pictured standing with their hands behind their back.

The Saudi Arabian Football Federation made an "unreserved" apology on Friday.

"The players did not intend any disrespect to the memories of the victims or to cause upset to their families, friends or any individual affected by the atrocity," it said in a statement.

"The Saudi Arabian Football Federation condemns all acts of terrorism and extremism and extends its sincerest condolences to the families of all the victims and to the government and people of the United Kingdom."
Is it really against Saudi culture?

The observance of moments of silence has been for years a subject of religious disagreement between moderate Muslim clerics, who do not object to it and consider it to be an appropriate expression of respect for the deceased, and hard-line Salafi clerics who believe that it is religiously prohibited.

In Indonesia, the world's largest Muslim-majority country, minutes of silence are not uncommon at football matches to pay tribute to the victims of natural disasters, or individuals who have died.

And despite the Saudi team's actions in Adelaide, it has emerged that Saudi sportsmen too have observed moments of silence in the past.

This suggests the controversy might be linked to current tensions in domestic Saudi politics, says Sajjad Rizvi, an associate professor at the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies at the University of


Several Australian politicians have criticised the Saudi team.

"This is not about culture," one MP, Anthony Albanese, told the local Nine network. "This is about a lack of respect and I thought it was disgraceful."

Asked about the incident, Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said he had not seen the footage, adding: "The whole world... is united in condemnation of that terrorist attack and terrorism generally.

Saudi sportsmen have observed silences in the past. Players from Al-Ahli Saudi FC observed one minute of silence before the Qatar Airways Cup match with FC Barcelona on 13 December 2016 in Doha, Qatar, in memory of players from Brazilian soccer team Chapecoense who died in a plane crash on 28 November.

Saudi male handball players also held a minute's silence before a match against Germany in January 2015 to remember the late king, Abdullah bin Abdulaziz.

Theresa May's gamble on a snap election looks set to cost her overall control of the House of Commons, according to a stunning exit poll.

The BBC/Sky/ITV poll suggested the UK was heading for a hung parliament, with Conservatives 12 seats short of the 326 they need for an absolute majority in the Commons.

The poll put Tories on 314 seats, with Labour on 266, the Scottish National Party on 34, Liberal Democrats on 14, Plaid Cymru on three and Greens on one.
